Fans have been given a First glimpse of Taron Egerton in Netflix’s upcoming thriller, as new images from the streaming giant’s highly anticipated film Apex hit the internet. The photos tease an intense survival story set against the unforgiving beauty of the Australian wilderness.
In the film, Welsh star Taron Egerton takes on one of his most chilling roles to date, portraying a serial killer locked in a deadly game of cat and mouse with a thrill-seeking character played by Charlize Theron. The plot unfolds in remote terrain, where the hunter and the hunted are pushed to their physical and psychological limits.
Apex is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on 24 April. In the newly released stills, Egerton appears almost unrecognisable with a shaved head, underscoring the film’s raw and ruthless tone. The images also highlight the dramatic landscapes of New South Wales, with filming taking place across the Blue Mountains and Sydney in early 2025.
Audiences may best remember Egerton for his award-winning transformation as Elton John in Rocketman, a performance that earned him a Golden Globe and widespread acclaim. More recently, he returned to Netflix screens in the festive action feature Carry-On, marking Apex as his second collaboration with the platform.
The thriller also boasts an impressive supporting cast, including Eric Bana, widely recognised for portraying the green-skinned superhero in the 2003 Marvel adaptation of Hulk.
Director Baltasar Kormákur described the experience as both demanding and rewarding, telling Netflix’s Tudum that working in Australia’s rugged terrain with such accomplished actors was “a joy,” even while pushing them to their limits in what he calls a unique survival story.
Raised in Aberystwyth after moving from Birkenhead via Anglesey, Egerton has long credited his Welsh roots for shaping his creative instincts. He first captured global attention in the action-comedy Kingsman: The Secret Service, before cementing his status as a versatile leading man.
Theron, meanwhile, remains one of Hollywood’s most formidable stars. She won an Academy Award for her harrowing performance as Aileen Wuornos in Monster, and continues to balance prestige roles with high-octane blockbusters.
With its striking visuals, powerhouse cast, and a relentless survival premise, Apex is shaping up to be one of Netflix’s most talked-about thrillers of the year.
