‘Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo’ Vol. 1 Opens at No. 1 on Japan’s Book Hot 100, marking a powerful start for the latest spinoff from one of the country’s most popular manga franchises. The new title, created by Yuji Iwasaki in collaboration with Gege Akutami, debuted at the summit of the Billboard Japan Book Hot 100 in the chart dated Jan. 15.

A Dominant Debut Across All Formats

The Japan Book Hot 100 is known for its wide-ranging methodology, factoring in physical book sales, e-books, library circulation, subscription services, and even social media engagement. Against this comprehensive backdrop, Jujutsu Kaisen ≡ (Modulo) Vol. 1 delivered an impressive performance, ranking No. 1 across physical stores, e-commerce platforms, and digital editions. By the end of the week, the volume had amassed nearly twice as many points as the runner-up title.

A spinoff of the blockbuster manga Jujutsu Kaisen, Modulo is set in the near future of the original storyline. The narrative shifts focus to the next generation, following the grandchildren of fan-favorite characters Yuta Okkotsu and Maki, offering readers a fresh perspective while staying rooted in the familiar universe.

Strong Competition in the New Year Chart

The first chart week after the New Year holidays saw several high-profile manga releases crowding the upper ranks. Landing at No. 2 was Dandadan Vol. 22 by Yukinobu Tatsu, which performed consistently across formats, including strong placements in physical sales and e-books. Close behind at No. 3 was Kagurabachi Vol. 10 by Takeru Hokazono, securing top-five positions across all major metrics.

Notable New Entrants

Also making its first appearance on the chart was Samuwan Hertz (Someone Hertz) Vol. 1 by Ei Yamano, debuting at No. 19. The teenage romantic comedy, themed around late-night radio broadcasts, broke into the top 20 thanks to solid showings in both brick-and-mortar bookstores and online retailers.

With its chart-topping debut and sweeping performance across formats, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Vol. 1 has firmly established itself as one of the year’s most successful manga launches so far, signaling continued momentum for the ever-expanding Jujutsu Kaisen universe.
